Garden Railway Traditional in the U.S

Solomon. R Guggenheim Muesum, NY known for its bold helicol structure and World Heritage Site, built in 1959.

Garden railroading was born in the 19th Century alongside full-sized railways, as master craftmen tinkered with steam powered miniatures for wealthy European collectors. Too large for parlours and occasionally proned to overheating, these models soon chugged into the great outdoors.

In the 1890s the German Company, Marklin’s introduction of “gauge-1” track the industry’s first standardised size, let enthusiasts join tracks and build sprawling backyard layouts, a trend that blossomed across the well-manicured gardens of Britain. In the U.S though, American toy giant Lionel’s similar “o” gauge trains were specifically designed for indoor play and the gardens railway stayed off-track until 1968 when German company, Lehmann Gross Bahn (lehmann’s big train) brought G-scale trains to the American market

These durable, weather proof G-Scale trains finally coaxed American modeller outdoors, sparkling a new era of garden railroading across leafy backyards and botanical gardens, where miniature trains now wind through scaled-down forests and tunnels.
