Senoko Waste-to-Energy Plant WTE

Rubbish trucks

There are four incinerators plants in sg. Together they incinerate 7600 tonnes of refuse a day. It reduces waste by 90%. About 400 refuse trucks roll into the facility every day. It operates from 8am to 8pm.

Plant was commissioned in 1992

Plant has a capacity to treat 2310 tonnes of waste per day and equipped with six incinerator boiler units and two condensing turbine generators offering a maximum power generation of two times 28 megawatts

Before tipping their waste load into Bunkers the vehicles are weighed at the weight bridge. Air pressure is kept below atmospheric pressure to contain the stench, while crane operators mixed the waste to ensure the composition is homogenous before feeding it into the six generators

Our guide Ms Foo, an engineer. She mentioned 50 staff and plus contractors it’s 200

Convert steam to electricity, only plant located in North West Singapore. 150m tall chimney to ensure that harmful gases are not emitted, the flue gas produced from the combustion process passes through an electrostatic precipitator, catalytic fabric filter system. This removes the dust particles neutralises the acidic content and breaks down dioxins into harmless gases before it is emitted through the two chimneys

After incineration, the metals in the incineration bottom ash such as iron, steel, aluminium and copper are extracted before the ash gets sent to Pulau Semakau
